If you know me, you know my poet’s heart.  Inspired by other writers’ blogs, I’ve decided to christen Wednesdays to be Poetry Wednesdays (shut up, if you have a better name, send it to me!).  On this day each week I’ll post a favorite (oh, god, so many!)  by a new (or old, familiar) writer, [...]

A Summer Wind

Today I took advantage of the year’s first summery day (we may have reached 90 degrees) to get my butt in gear.  I’ve been going through something this spring and haven’t had my usual enthusiasm for getting outside to play and putter in the yard.  So I spent half the day cleaning garden beds, weeding, [...]

Who’s reading in America?

Statistics posted by Betsy on the blueboards…sparking a lively discussion!  Yay!
“A recent survey showed that more than eighty percent of Americans (82%) want to write a book. This extraordinary statistic is somewhat puzzling considering that the National Endowment for the Arts estimates that only fifty-seven percent of Americans have read even 1 book in the [...]

A cause to consider….

I learned about this cause on the Verla Kay blueboards for children’s writers.  Bridget Zinn is a writer of young adult fiction,a perky, outdoorsy, adventure-y, grab-life-by-the-ears kinda gal who lives in Oregon.  You know the type.  Super healthy, vegan, sunscreen nazi, processed-food fighter.   Read on.  What a heart-wrenching story!

Returning to normalcy….

Joanna had her first trip to the dentist this morning.  Ellie had to go first, she said, and in the end, my baby did a great job.  She even tolerated a flouride treatment!  I guess it was because she had her sister’s good example to follow?  Here are some pics…

As you could guess from Joanna’s [...]

Random thoughts….

I can’t write too much, following the days where we said goodbye to grandma.  My entire self is somehow braided together by the moments — stretched into hours, days — spent with her and grandpa.  How can everything still happen when they are gone?  I suppose that many hours will pass before I figure that [...]
